Our hearts are overwhelmed with grief – Diana is not with us any more. She passed away on September 3, 2009, at the intensive care unit as a result of hemorrhage. She fell asleep the night before and didn’t wake up. She would have celebrated her fifth birthday in two months.

Diana Chernukhina, born 2004, myelodysplastic syndrome, refractory anemia with surplus of blasts

In 2008, our only daughter Diana was admitted to the hospital with thrombocytopenia (low platelet count). At that time, Diana was three and a half years old. During one year of treatment, she had a lot of punctures done, several anesthetic conditions, hormonal therapy and numerous analyses. However, it didn’t improve her health in any way. In October 2008, Diana was diagnozed with myelodysplastic syndrome, refractory anemia with surplus of blasts. Diana need an allogenic bone marrow transplant because she doesn’t have any siblings would could possible become donors for her. But will this allogenic bone marrow transplantation ever take place? Diana has a very low thrombocyte count, sometimes 10 times less than the norm.
