Nadya Kremenetskaya got a combined relapse, i.e., both her bone marrow and central nervous system got affected. It’s hard to believe but the relapse occurred less than four months upon completion of the main treatment. Nadya has barely recovered after such a long stay at the hospital. She has barely got used to living at home without being surrounded by the people in white uniforms. Nadya is only 1 year and 5 months old. She spent almost half of her life at the hematology department. Just four months ago we saw Nadya and her parents off wishing them never to come back to the specialized children’s hospital in Kiev (Okhmatdet). Most likely, they won’t come back to Okhmatdet because there are no beds available there.
Nadya will have to undergo treatment at the local hospital in Chernovtsy. The quality of treatment there is not even close to the treatment the children get in Kiev. But she doesn’t have any other options. Her father will go to Kiev to get the instructions about Nadya’s further treatment for the doctors in Chernovtsy. Nadya was receiving a low-dose chemotherapy during the first period of treatment because she was only 7 months old at that time. High-dose chemotherapy would simply have killed her. But now the doctors don’t
have a choice. They will have to give Nadya a high-dose chemotherapy because she has 95% of blasts in her bone marrow. However, the doctors don’t know how it will go for her. If a high-dose chemotherapy doesn’t kill Nadya and if she achieves the remission, she will need an allogenic bone marrow transplant. The doctors give Nadya and her parents only three months to raise the money. Nadya’s parents are still in shock. They don’t know what to do, where to go, whom to ask, how to save their only baby. Nadya is a very long-awaited child. Her mother couldn’t get pregnant for 10 years. Please, help Nadya and her parents to raise the money both for the current treatment and for the allogenic bone marrow transplant abroad.
