Nadya Kremenetskaya, DOB January 26, 2008, acute lymphoblastic leukemia

It cannot be true. A 7-month-old baby cannot have leukemia… That’s what Nadya’s mother was thinking. But it turned out to be true. The doctors of the specialized children’s hospital in Kiev came across leukemia in babies at such a young age only twice. Unfortunately, it occurs
Nadya was a long-awaited child in the family. Lyudmila, Nadya’s mother, was trying to get pregnant for 14 years. The doctors were talking about infertility.

But God was merciful to Lyudmila and her husband Ivan – in January 2008, when Lyudmila turned 39 years old, she gave birth to Nadya. They were so happy! They couldn’t stop kissing her tiny fingers, eyes, cheeks. But… In August, Nadya’s cheeks got swollen and she got fever. Like any other parents, Nadya and Ivan thought it was because of the teeth. But the pediatrician didn’t like the fact that Nadya was very pale and insisted on having a blood test done. The result of the blood test was shocking – leukocytes were 134,000. Nadya’s parents took her to Kiev immediately. Only they know what they had to go through so that to get a bed for their daughter at the hospital. Lyudmila was ready to sleep outside on the porch only to get her daughter treated.
Nadya and her mother have been at the hospital for more than three months. Nadya is an amazingly funny baby. She smiles all the time. Hospital is her home. When time comes to go back to the ward, Lyudmila says, “OK, enough playing, let’s go home.” It was at the hospital that she got her first tooth, made her first step, said her first word “mama”… At first, Nadya’s father was staying in Kiev all the time running from one pharmacy to another. But now he has to spend two weeks at home in the village and two weeks in Kiev. They used to own a small food store in their village but they had to shut it down and to sell off all the supplies because they didn’t have anybody to look after the store. As a result, the family doesn’t have a steady income now. They get $100 a month as a sickness allowance for their baby. Nadya is undergoing the intensive chemotherapy under the protocol Interfant 99. She has already received Metotreksat and Cytosar. Now she is having a break because of the low blood count. Nadya has a half sister from her father’s first marriage. Her half sister tries to help Nadya. Nadya was baptized in the Orthodox Church. Please help this baby. Help her learn what a real home is about. Help her forget about this disease.
